S100B Protein in Serum as a Prognostic Marker for Brain Injury in Term Newborn Infants with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy - New Strategy for Early Brain Damage
نویسندگان
چکیده
Material and Methods: All risk neonates with severe asphyxia, admitted to the neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the University Pediatric Hospital in Skopje-Macedonia within 24h of injury were eligible for inclusion in the study. One serum blood sample was obtained from each patient at the 24h post-injury time-point, than day 3 and day 7. S100B levels were measured using ECLIA method (ElectroChemil-Luminiscence Immuno Assay-Elecsys 2010-Roche Diagnostic).

Relevance of urinary S100B protein levels as a short-term prognostic biomarker in asphyxiated infants treated with hypothermia
The initial diagnosis of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is based on nervous system clinical manifestations. The use of biomarkers to monitor brain injury and evaluate neuroprotective effects allows early intervention and treatment. This study was designed to determine the short-term prognostic significance of urinary S100B calcium-binding protein (S100B) in asphyxiated newborns treate...
متن کاملThe value of serum level of S100B protein in predicting brain edema in children with diabetes ketoacidosis
Background and Objective: The S100B protein has recently been considered as an important marker for predicting severe brain damage; however, there has been very little evidence of increasing this marker in cerebral edema due to metabolic disorders such as diabetes ketoacidosis (DKA). This study was designed and performed to evaluate the prognostic role of S100B protein in predicting brain edema...
متن کاملS100B protein related neonatal hypoxia.
Biochemical markers have played an increasingly relevant role in the assessment of neonatal asphyxia. The S100B protein is particularly important in research conducted in this field. The purpose of this study was to underline the importance of the S100B protein in the assessment of term newborn infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, as well as to relate it to other substances also involv...

متن کاملBiochemical Markers in Perinatal
Early assessment of the severity of an acute cerebral lesion secondary to hypoxia-ischemia or other pathologic conditions may provide a very useful basis for preventive or therapeutic decisions in pediatric patients. In the present review, we discuss the diagnostic and prognostic value of a series of biochemical parameters, with special reference to the diagnosis of neonatal HIE. Currently many...
